There are no accolades for guessing why the Maldives is referred as honeymooners paradise. Although, most of my journeys are solo experiences this one was deliberately accompanied. I and my husband had many fiery discussions while we were planning our honeymoon destination, his love for beaches and mine for history was the bone of contention. But as usual just like any other woman I had to win this election so we travelled to Europe for our honeymoon in my quest for history. But due to my tremendous adoration for him, I couldn’t stop myself to plan a trip to the mecca of beaches “Maldives” while pleasantly surprising him.
The Maldives is very well connected from all over the world and is the most visited beach destination. The crystal clear blue waters, colourful marine life, white sand and an environment offering rejuvenation. The best thing about the Maldives is that it facilitates visa on arrival for most nationalities without much formalities and zero visa fee.
As being located in the southern part of India, Maldives is in close proximity. I & my husband booked us on Srilankan airways which were hardly a four-hour flight via Colombo.

We arrived at the Maldives at around 1000am and were greeted at the airport by the hotel’s airport representative who walked us to the speedboat. We booked ourselves at the Kurumba Maldives, one of the oldest resort to commence operations at the Maldives situated at the Vihamanafushi Island.
Me speeding towards Kurumba 🙂
The ride to Kurumba is of 15 minutes via speedboat which the resort provides to guests for airport transfers on a complimentary basis. I had never seen such crystal clear blue waters ever before, while the speedboat leads to the resort.
As we reached Kurumba, wherever I could move my head there were only picturesque blue waters walled with sea wall in order to provide a refreshing swimming experience to the guests during the rough climate. We were welcomed with an energizing coconut drink (I forgot to ask for the recipe 🙁 ). Fortunately, we managed to get an early check-in and that too in an upgraded room as a kind gesture the resort showed to us as they knew am travelling on my birthday. This was an absolute serendipity.

While we were being transferred in a golf cart to our room, the resort host driving us familiarized us with the complete resort while showing the spa, recreational activities area, swimming pool and most important the beach. Kurumba is located on a huge private island which I can bet could be the size of a small village in India. This resort is a destination in itself providing numerous recreational and engaging facilities to the guests staying here.
Kurumba has in total 09 different categories of rooms starting from superior room to the highest category space called the Royal Kurumba Residences.
We stayed at the beachfront deluxe bungalow and this place is an absolute enchantment to eyes. We opened our bedroom door and found the blue Indian ocean in front of us. All we did, is to change in our swimsuits and jumped into the sea.
This bungalow comes with some luxurious facilities like Nespresso coffee machine, “your own cocktail bar”, high-end bath amenities, beach slippers, bag, towels and also life safety jackets. We enjoyed many cocktails relaxing on the private balcony facing the sea attached to our bedroom. This is a lifetime experience for those who are in search of peace and ultimate relaxation.

Apart from the food you can pick your favourite drink and enjoy the sunset at Athiri – The bar or can enjoy late evenings with karaoke, DJ or listening to the waves at Kalhu and Kandu, the other two bar spaces at the resort. And of course, if you are on a romantic getaway Kurumba offers you to dine under the stars just at the beach while listening to the sound of waves.

Recreation at Kurumba
The greatest delight to be at the Maldives is to indulge in the gripping experience of Snorkeling in the blue waters and that was on top of our to-do list irrespective of the fact that we are not very good swimmers. The waters around Kurumba are home to more than 1200 species of fish and other marine creatures as well as more than 1000 coral species and other reef invertebrates that create the reef on which they live. You may find rare marine life species like the giant Napoleon wrasse as well as turtles, eels, sharks and much more here while you need to ensure that you don’t touch any of the marine life most importantly corals.

Majaa Recreation, a recreation facilitating centre located in the middle of the island helped us with snorkelling lessons at the hotel pool which is specially designed to give snorkelling lessons to Kurumba’s guests. This centre also provides fins and the snorkelling gears hence no need to carry your own heavy equipment. (There is no charge for this facility)
Majaa provides every reason to not get bored on the island and especially for the kids. You can find a 24-hour gymnasium, trainers assisting guests with body stretching techniques, Tai Chi lessons for beginners, Yoga, Maldivian arts & crafts for kids and canvas painting classes.
Other water sports activities
Kurumba has a dedicated area at one corner of the island for water sports. They have experienced and skilled instructors to assist you engaging in all the water sports activities available at the resort. The list of activities available here consists of Canoe, catamaran sailing, water-skiing, fun tube, wake-boarding, jet ski tour, parasailing, banana boat, windsurfing with lessons, sailing lessons and last but not least scuba diving with lessons for both adults & kids.
Apart from the above-listed activities, Kurumba doesn’t allow you to be bored at the Island as they have a weekly planner for their guests which has an array of activities to keep the guests busy from dawn to dusk and most of them are complimentary.

The Veli Spa
After all the activities, a rejuvenating massage experience at the Veli Spa of Kurumba is a must to indulge inexperience. Relax your senses here with yoga or Dhivehi Beys, the traditional Maldivian spa experience using the medicinal remedies combined with modern day spa therapies. The Services – A true delight
Writing about a resort, services have to be a quintessential aspect. One of the main reasons why Kurumba stands out is because of its People, who are dedicated to providing genuine, impeccable and friendly services to the guests here. The people here take efforts in knowing their guests through unobtrusive conversations to figure out how can they make their guests stay special and once in a lifetime one. Right from the airport representative to the team member who dropped us back to the airport by the speedboat was extraordinary in their hospitality.
A birthday made special by the team of Kurumba Maldives 🙂
If you are planning to tick this destination on your travel list, Kurumba Maldives is a must to consider. A destination in itself this resort is high on Luxury. Kurumba charges a minimum of 250 dollars a night for their superior room while you can pay more and pick other categories as per your requirements.
Personal tip while booking: Bear in mind while you book on a full board plan because that would restrict you from experiencing the culinary delights of all restaurants as the full board would give you access only to all-day dining restaurant called Vihamanna.
Must pack: High SPF sunscreen to avoid tan, cotton wear to stay dry due to humidity, swimsuits, comfortable slippers as you would have to walk a lot, mosquito repellent, medicines for nausea if you have plans to go for excursions in the sea, sunglasses.
